connecting and inspiring entrepreneurial women

Brandy Nagel

Public speaking and presentation skills -for Startup Chicks only

It's OK to be a "behind the scenes" person at your startup. Every startup needs those people. But if you want to get in front of investors and customers to pitch your idea/product/service, you should be prepared, polished and professional.

Sounds like we have a need for "pitching and presenting" skills. I'd like to facilitate a skills workshop as a way of making my contribution to the group. Girls only. Free. Fun.

If you are interested, tell me if you would rather
a) have a monthly event for one or two hours and commit to improve skills over time or
b) set aside a a day or a half day and really focus on improving
c) a hybrid

I think this is a GREAT idea. One of the ideas I had tossed around with some of the other "chicks" was the idea of doing a women only Pitch Camp.

Thanks for taking the initiative/lead on this.

I would be interested in this! You can never sharpen up enough. :) I would prefer to do it all in one shot - so option B.

This sounds like a great idea. I think it would be good to meet a couple of different times - practice makes perfect!

Great idea!
Hmm... I'd go with C.

I used to present, but am feeling a bit rusty. One day back on the horse might do it.
However - the consistent practice is probably a good idea.
How about a Boot Camp - followed by monthly local "workouts?"
( Will leave my mixed metaphors at home. )

Thanks!

Right now, I'm taking a special topics course on Entrepreneurship headed by Dr. Merrick Furst at Georgia Tech. We meet for 3 hours once every week. Lately we have been exploring the art of pitching. Apart from presentation style and addressing the 4 basic risks, we focus on semantics and phrasing on a detailed level and explore the dance entreprenuers and VC's play.

Being able to continue to develop pitching and presentation skills beyond that class with the support of passionate women would be wonderful. I would like to do the hybrid (c) in agreement with Kristin.

Brandy,
I would love to attend a day or a half day to start off and from that point make the decision for monthly events.

Interesting! I would vote for "Pitching and presenting skills camp", though I think it should have a fun name, if someone can think one up.

I like the idea of doing a day (or at least a half day) to provide:
- Lecture/Demonstration of some key point/skills
- Structured practices for EVERY attendee to pitch in front of a group.
After the first day long 'camp', I'd recommend at least couple a month 'meetings' to practice/review/share successes. This format has served Toastmasters VERY well since the early 1900s, and remains relevant today.
