Requirements for a consumer products company to launch - some of what you need to know in order to sell the big boys!!
Effective sell sheets that can be presented to buyers via email
Complete spec sheets that contain all product measurements, weights, UPC codes, etc
Comprehensive
wholesale, distributor, dealer, and suggested retail pricing for each
type of customer segment (margin point requirements will vary by
customer type)
High res images of product and product in packaging, logo, etc
POP display materials (if applicable) and packaging options for different retailers
Effective website
Effective collateral materials such as instructions for use, warranty card, CD-ROM included with the product
Proper
sales strategy – who are you approaching, how will you approach dealers
and distributors, what retail sectors are best for the product, who
will make the sales calls to each retail sector, do you have the buyer
connections, do you know how to negotiate significant deals with mid to
large size retailers, if you hire sales reps who will manage them and
do you understand how to work with them and set up agreements within
the US and how to pay them correctly, etc
Proper marketing
strategy – how will you market the product – trade shows, print ads, PR
campaign, internet marketing – do you know which ones are most
effective and give you the “best bang for your buck?”
Fulfillment
– who is best to manufacture for you, how will you handle warehousing,
how will you handle shipping, are you EDI capable/web enabled to handle
retailer purchase orders and drop ship orders – do you know which is
most cost effective and best for you at this stage?
Financial –
are you properly funded? Do you have a plan to come up with significant
money should a major retailer place a large order and you have to pay
the factory up front? Do you know what PO financing is? Factoring? Do
you know how it works? Do you have an unsecured line of credit with a
bank?
